Louisiana Road Home - Homeowners

Designed to provide compensation to Louisiana homeowners affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita for damages to their homes.  The Road Home program is the largest single housing recovery program in U.S. history.  Eligible homeowners may receive up to $150,000 in compensation for losses to rebuild.

Louisiana Road Home - Small-Scale Rental Property Program

Designed to provide loans and incentive grants to property owners who operate affordable rental home. Aims to restore the tens of thousands of rental units that were damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Louisiana Road Home - Building Professionals

Offers training, design and construction resources to assist Road Home applicants.  Encourages contractors and skilled laborers to list their businesses on the Professional Rebuilding Registry, a match-making service for property owners and a clearing house for educational and community resources.

The Commissioner of Insurance has complete jurisdiction over the Life, Health and Accident, Property and Liability, Marine and Inland Marine, Fidelity and Surety, and Title Insurance Industries in Louisiana.  He is ultimately responsible for the collection of Insurance Premium Taxes and Fees as well as the approval of all policy forms offered to Louisiana citizens, and has a host licensing and regulatory duties to ensure a fair and safe market for Louisiana’s insurance consumers.

Office of Property and Casualty
Consolidates the regulation of state and federal requirements applicable to commercial and personal lines of property and casualty insurance.  This office provides protection to Louisiana consumers and determines whether enhancements or modifications are necessary to assure continued compliance and provide the public a forum for addressing major property and casualty issues facing the state.

·         Determine the facts surrounding a claim

·         Resolve a complaint if the only evidence is your word against the word of others

Scholarships for Educational Excellence Program

This program offers increased educational choice by providing opportunities for eligible students in Orleans Parish to attend nonpublic or selected public schools.  To be eligible, a child must:

·         Reside within the geographic boundaries of the covered district (Orleans Parish);

·         Be a member of a family with a total income that does not exceed 2.50% of the current federal poverty guidelines;

·         Be entering kindergarten, first grade, second grade or third grade; and

·         Have been enrolled in a public school during the 2007-2008 school year that was under the operation or the Recovery School District, unless the student is entering kindergarten for the first time during the 2008-2009 school year.

·         After the application process is completed and eligibility is determined, scholarships recipients will be chosen by a random process conducted by the Louisiana Department of Education.  Eligible students who do not receive a scholarship will be placed on a waiting list.
